Visit to Alton Castle

On 11th-13th January, Year 5 spent three days at Alton Castle, accompanied by Mrs McDevitt, Mrs Fowler and Miss Watts.  We stayed in the castle, set within a beautiful valley in Staffordshire, to enjoy a range of activities and to spend time reflecting on what we learned during time set aside for spiritual reflection and prayer.

The castle grounds

Our beautiful dining area. We shared our trip with St Patrick's Year 5 children from Leamington Spa.

Playing 'Do This and That' when we first arrived at the Discovery Centre.

On our survival course, first we built a shelter. We got the equipment, tied the poles together, then put the tarpaulin over the top....success!!

Next we made a fire, using steel and flint to light some cotton wool & wood shavings to start the fire. The fire was used to boil our water for water for hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows.

For many, the trekking was the hardest activity, with mud and water and cold conditions. We still had fun though.

The adventure course with wobbly bridges, zip wires, and other activities testing our strength, balance, co-ordination and nerve. Then we had to do it all again blindfolded!

Having fun playing Freeze Frame / Musical Statues and dancing to songs like YMCA.

Welcome to Year 5!
