We are working hard to hear children read reguularly at school and really appreciate it when parents (and other adults) can hear children read at home too. To help us change class reading books please ensure that you are filling in the reading diaries so we know whether your child needs their book changed or not. We can see real progress in reading skills in those children who read at home as well as school.
TTRockstars
We are delighted to see that so many of the class have accessed their brand new TTRockstars account and are busily collecting coins whilst learning their times tables. Once a week, we are completing a timed written test in class so that the children can show off their times tables facts. Most of the class are focusing on their x2 x5 x10 tables.
Tuesday 16th January 2024 HOME LEARNING
Good morning Year Two. It's very quiet here in school and very, very cold!
You'll find two maths worksheets - some Maths work on Money which is our current unit. Also, some consolidation of adding skills.
For English I would like you to focus on this week's spellings. You have slides to watch, a sentence worksheet to complete and a wordsearch as an extension.
Finally, we are starting our new Science unit on Everyday Materials. Watch the slides and go hunting around the house for materials to list on your worksheet.
Keep warm, be good and (if you get chance) practice the Prayer to the Guardian Angel which we have been learning.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow (fingers-crossed)
We're very excited to be almost at the end of our first month here in Year Two and what a busy month it has been! Mrs. O'Shea and Ms. Lanka are excited about all the learning opportunities awaiting us this year. Please remember to check X/Twitter so you can enjoy all the exciting moments your child's learning journey.
You don't need to print off any worksheets. They can be answered on paper. There are lined books available from the school office if needed.
I have been uploading other lessons onto this page for each day so hopefully you've been able to do some reading comprehension, science, theme, art and P.E. Don't forget there are also activities on the Theme and R.E. tic tac toes.
Children I have been so impressed with all of the work I have been receiving on Seesaw-it's been so lovely to see all of your wonderful efforts. I know doing your school work from home can be difficult so I'm so proud of you!
Thank you for attending our Zoom English lessons and story times. It's been lovely to see you all and be able to still teach- although differently to how I normally would. I'm going to try to do some spelling, punctuation and grammar work at the start of each lesson this week so have a piece of paper and a pencil handy at the beginning of each session. The spellings for this week are below- if you practice these throughout the week we will have a test on Friday.
Parents if you need to contact me please email me on doranl@st-osburgs.coventry.sch.uk/

Good afternoon parents
Just a quick update. I have sent a message through the Seesaw app with a link to our live English lessons which will begin Tuesday 12th January and will happen at 10:45am (rather than the 1pm I previously stated). These will happen everyday apart from a Monday. I have also added a link to a zoom story time I will do every Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm. If you have any issues accessing these, please contact me via my email doranl@st-osburgs.coventry.sch.uk
I have hopefully sent out emails to all parents who may have not had the login details to Seesaw. Please use this as it is the easiest way for me to send links etc.
Thank you
Miss Doran
Good afternoon.
Yesterday when I started planning your home learning it was just in case you might have been isolating- not that we would be in lock down again. I was so looking forward to seeing you today. This week all of our home learning will be uploaded on to this page. Next week I will be teaching you an English lesson Tuesday- Friday at 1pm via Zoom (this will also be available to the children attending school).I will be sending a link to this lesson via Seesaw so please contact me via doranl@st-osburgs.coventry.sch.uk if you do not have this login. I will also be doing a story time 3 times a week too.
I will also contact parents with a login for Times Tables Rockstars.
Keep safe and I'll see you next week on Zoom!

Today is our last sentence stacking day before we begin thinking about our independent writing. We are thinking about plot point 10- the letter. Imagine you are standing in Grandad's attic
Imagine places a letter could be hidden. Think about prepositions we used earlier in the unit e.g. under, next to , behind, on beside (thinking side 1) Use my model sentence, Syd found a letter under Grandad's hat, to write one of your own (writing side 1).
Think about verbs to describe how Syd may have opened his letter e.g. tore, ripped, shredded (thinking side 2). Use my model sentence to write one of your own- He prised it open (writing side 2).
Think about the exciting things Grandad may be doing on the island now. Create a list of action verbs related to what Grandad could be doing e.g. jumping, leaping, diving (thinking side 3). Use my model sentences, there was Grandad sliding down the waterfalls. Grandad had found his happily ever after, to write tow of your own (writing side 3).

Welcome to our Year 2 Class Page. This page is going to be a very important tool for us this year as I will be uploading home learning here every Monday. This home learning is to be used if the child is well but awaiting test results for themselves or a family member, if isolating due to a close contact having a positive Covid-19 test, school bubble closure or wider closures of schools.
Please find below work for the week beginning 21.09.20.
Also below is our Welcome Parent Meeting information. Normally this would take place in school but due to restrictions we have added the information onto here. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to ring the school office and I will get back to you.
I hope you are all well. I’ve been making calls again this week- it’s been lovely to speak to you again. Any children I haven’t called this week I’ll be calling in the next couple of weeks. Mums and dads you should be receiving an email regarding a Zoom meeting I’m setting up for next Wednesday afternoon. You may already be familiar with Zoom but if not you can download it for free on a phone or tablet or access it on your computer by searching for zoom. Once you have emailed me your interest in taking part in the meeting I will email you the time along with the meeting ID and password. You just need to click onto ‘join meeting’ and add these in. There will be time to do a ‘Show and Tell’ and I’ll read the children a chapter from ‘The World’s Worst Teachers’.
Regarding home learning, there are still lots of packs in the school office- these are there for those children who haven’t collected their second pack. I have added some links below- there is another Talk for Writing pack, links to the RWI daily lessons as well as the link to the BBC Bitesize daily lessons which will be particularly useful for maths. I’ve also added another 3 weeks of the weekly learning activities. There’s also the life skills experience sheet you can work on. Remember you don’t need to be doing lots of work- little and often is best.
Reading BooksThis website has books to read with your children, for your children to listen to, or they could read to you. The books are banded by colour/level, choose the band that your child is currently on or try some others. This service is currently free. The log in details are:Username: parents@harpercollins.co.uk Password: Parents20! Log in as TEACHER
I am missing you all greatly, it was wonderful to speak to most of you over the last couple of weeks. I will be calling again soon for another catch up. I hope you're all staying safe and keeping well- remember to stay at home.
I have added some more links onto this class page. Bitesize are from this week doing daily lessons for most year groups, the link on this page will directly take you to the Year 2 page. For those children who are currently on our phonics programme (RWI), there are daily phonics lessons, I've added the link to that YouTube page too. For maths, in particular, I'm finding the White Rose maths very helpful, the link for that is below too. There is also a link to 3 daily lessons from the government, the link will take you to Oak National Academy.
Don't worry if you're not doing work daily, the most important thing is that you are safe and well. Enjoy this time with your families- read books together, watch films, bake cakes, make a den, get creative! All of those things we don't always get to do.
Remember that although school may be closed for the majority of you, all the staff at St. Osburg's are thinking about you all of the time. Parents if you need any support or have any queries the school office is still open.
Take care and hopefully Mrs Blow and myself will see you soon!
Weekly LessonsThe Government has produced 3 lessons per day for each year group to follow if you wish to do so. A week’s worth of lessons will be posted to this web address each Monday morning. You may choose to complete these lessons in any order or follow the schedule that is shown. These are here if you would like to use them; please don't feel under any pressure to complete them all.
