Safeguarding Children – our annual statement

In the interest of safeguarding children there may be

occasions when the school has to consult other agencies without a parent’s prior knowledge. The school’s first concern is the child’s welfare and the school has a duty to act to protect the child at all times. Such consultation may result in a formal referral which could prompt visits from social services and/or the police.  We fully understand that this can be a very distressing set of circumstances, but we can only assure you that we follow the procedures laid down by the Coventry Safeguarding Board, a copy of which is available in school as is a copy of our own policy.

Early Help Offer

There are times in life when we all experience situations which are difficult to cope with and have no idea where’s best to turn to for support. Many families worry about speaking up for fear of the unknown and are often unsure about which agency to turn to as it can be a minefield.

Our Early Help offer can help reduce some of that worry. Together, we can identify current areas of need, create a personalised in depth action plan and source further support from external agencies if required. This will enable your family to receive the right support and the right time. Evidence shows providing the right support to families as soon as issues arise, has the most success in reducing any potential negative impact on a child’s outcome.

There are many reasons families benefit from Early Help. Examples of these can be found below:

  • behaviour support,
  • parenting advice,
  • school attendance
  • bereavement counselling,
  • Housing needs
  • health advice, or for specific medical issues
  • financial assistance
  • young carers

If you would like any further information or discuss this further, please contact the office or speak to Mrs Fowler or Miss Carey who are available out on the gate each morning so they can make an appointment for you. We are here to provide assistance for your family without any judgment and in confidence.

You are also able to access advice and support from any of the Family Hubs which can be found right across the city.

Further information on Early Help and support services can be found on the local authority’s website https://www.coventry.gov.uk/family-hubs/family-hubs-families-carers
