Science 'Growth' Photo Competition
Wow – what a fun afternoon and night Year 4 have just had! They have been taking part in team building games, orienteering, den building, water play and graffiti art, enjoyed a chip shop tea and a movie night too before sleeping overnight in the school hall! Staff have reported that the children behaved fantastically and everyone actually managed to get some sleep too! Special thanks to Mrs Oluremi, Mrs Adeyemi and Mrs Bardell for organising it all and staying overnight with the children. J
On Wednesday, Year 6 went to London to visit the Houses of Parliament, and to watch the musical, Matilda at the Cambridge theatre in the West End. They got to take part in a workshop on Campaigning & Parliament as well as meeting our local MP, Taiwo Owatemi who answered our questions and shared why she decided to become an MP. Lunch was spent at St James' park, and luckily the sun shone throughout! Our last event was to watch Matilda which is going to be the Year 6 play this year- the children got lots of tips! Everyone had a superb day and were tired, but happy on our return to school.🙂
Special thanks to Mrs McDevitt for organising and Mr Jordan, Miss Carey and Mr Dingley for all accompanying the children on the day.
Year 5 returned from a fantastic Lenten retreat at Alton castle this week. We were so impressed to hear of their fantastic behaviour, attitudes and participation. Special thanks to Mr Dingley for organising the whole trip and also to Miss Howes and Mrs Adeyemi for accompanying the children.
Over the Easter holidays, the children were invited to take part in a 'Growth' themed photo competition linked to British Science Week. Thank you for all of the wonderful and creative entries which made the task of judging very challenging. We had more then 60 entries and chose an EYFS/KS1 winner and a KS2 winner, with10 runners up from across the school. Congratulations to Ansson in Y2 for his photographs of swan eggs and baby signets and to Olivia in Y4 for her collage of garden flowers which she has grown from bulbs. Every child who entered received a certificate and a packet of sunflower seeds to grow at home.
Well done everyone!
Everyone had great fun as we celebrated World Book day across the whole school. Children and staff looked fantastic in the character costumes and everyone took part in a range of book related activities including visits to the very sophisticated ‘Book Café’ for Years 1-6, a wonderful trip to Central Library for Reception for a special reading, singing and music making session and Nursery had story time followed by cakes and hot chocolate with Little Red Riding Hood.
Year 4 took part in an amazing initiative run by TeenTech with Warwick University. During a live session, they met engineering, design and technology experts from around the world, who inspired them about the importance of creating eco- friendly solutions for our future cities. Children designed and created their buildings thinking about tackling global and local environmental issues, as well as considering innovative technologies that can be used to help us in our daily lives.
This week is anti-bullying week and each class has been given one kind word to focus on in class.
Children from Years 1-6 went to the Odeon cinema at the Skydome as part of the Intofilm festival and enjoyed watching Cruella and Shaun The Sheep: Farmageddon.
Our Year 5 pupils joined Lady Godiva, the Godiva sisters representing ladies from around the world, the Lord Mayor and many other guests and visitors in the city centre to celebrate Godiva day. The children took part in a procession behind the banners through town and then performed a dance to ‘Love & Pride’ by King expressing how proud they are to be part of the city of Coventry. Well done children!
